The New Beginnings Film Project

The idea of the project was for clients to make a film demonstrating that recovery was possible as well as showing how the process works within New Beginnings which is often extremely difficult to capture in a paper document as well as demonstrate.  Clients wanted the film to be shown within front line services to give hope and inspiration to other service users that New Beginnings is here and does work.

Wasted Years

In May 2010 a group of people with a history of substance misuse addiction got together with Andy Collins a Community Development Worker for NHS Doncaster Drug Strategy to help write lyrics for a song called Wasted Years. The song depicts the desperation and despair of drug use through to hope and the chance to change.

The following short film uses the lyrics of Wasted Years to tell real life stories of peoples struggle to overcome drug addiction and their journey to recovery. Wasted Years was filmed on location in Doncaster and current and ex service users were involved in the planning, filming and production of the film you are now about to see.
